  • WCMS stands out as the only school in Perth offering a holistic music education that goes beyond instrumental skills. Our curriculum provides a deep understanding performance skills, stage skills, theory, song-writing, music production, music recording & so much more!

  • Instrumental Students at WCMS enjoy a unique blend of three private instrumental lessons and one engaging group lesson each month. This balanced approach ensures a well-rounded music education.

  • At WCMS, we offer a carefully designed curriculum that ensures your musical journey is structured and progressive. We guide students through various levels, each tailored to their age and skill level:

    KinderGro (2-4 year olds): Our youngest students embark on their musical journey with KinderGro, where they explore the wonders of music in a playful and nurturing environment.

    Mini Musos (4-6 year olds): Mini Musos is the next step, where young talents begin to develop essential musical foundations.

    Intro to Music Course (6-11 year olds): Our beginner 5-week course for ages 6-11, providing a solid foundation in music while offering the opportunity to experience different instruments in a band setting.

    Instrumental Lessons (5 years to adults): As students progress, they transition to instrumental lessons, where they have the flexibility to explore their passion further, whether they're absolute beginners or advanced musicians.

    Our Instrumental curriculum is divided into four levels: Foundations, Evolving, Elevated, and Maestro. Each level offers a deeper understanding of music and mastery of skills. As students progress into each level, they unlock exclusive merchandise and performance opportunities, making their journey even more rewarding.

  • Whether you're just starting or an experienced musician, we offer FIVE exciting performance opportunities for everyone in our community each year.

  • Our programs are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing you to shape your musical journey. Enjoy the freedom of month-to-month enrolment and say goodbye to being locked in for a term as a time!

  • Enjoy flexible lesson cancellation and learn music year-round with 50 weeks of engaging education.

Director’s Note

I'm so thrilled that you have found our wonderful community.

My name is Kathryn Raats, and I'm the Founding Director of West Coast Music School.

I founded WCMS in 2015 to bring together all that I was passionate about in life; Wellness (which I explored in depth in my previous career as a nurse/midwife), Music and Inclusive Education.

It was my dream to create a space and an approach to education that was truly empowering. I wanted to focus on building up and strengthening the core of every single person who we met along the way. With the help of the most unbelievable team, we have done just that within WCMS.

I have always believed (and seen with my own eyes) that music is so much more than 'another skill to be learned'. It's a tool that can be equipped to enrich the lives and nourish the souls of those who choose to explore it.

I am a firm believer in avoiding 'cookie-cutter' curriculum that forces every student to learn the same things in the same ways.

Each person is incredibly unique, and that should be celebrated and harnessed to allow them to reach their full potential.
